Migrant Children Re integration Project Launched

The EU-IOM Partnership “Socio-Economic Re-Integration Support for Migrant Children in Hadiya and Kembata Tembaro Zone” project Mary Joy as an implementing partner launched the project on July 4, 2019 in Hosaina City Shambalala Hotel.

The project aiming to contribute to the Ethiopian Social Protection policy and strategy ensuring right based economic well being of child migrant returnees in Hadiya and Kembata and Tembaro Zones. Specifically, the project targeted to improve the lives of 225 (165 minor returnees and 60 other vulnerable children and their family’s wellbeing.

Stakeholders, partners and government co signatories were invited to attend the workshop and 17 Female and 49 male a total 66 participants attended the workshop. Participants are mainly from Labour and social affairs, women, children and youth affairs, TVET and Finance sectors.

Welcoming speech and briefing by Sara Basha, National Program coordinator of IOM emphasizing on the current challenge of Illegal migration specific to the project areas and the lack of information and wrong attitude a lot of child migrants are suffering in different routes. On the other hand Sr. Zebidar Zewde Founder and Executive Director of Mary joy Development Association Welcomed and explained Mary joy’s accomplishments to date and the experiences gained in community mobilization, socio economic empowerment and psychosocial support to better implement and meet the project objectives.

Key speakers from each zone were addressed their speech; Mary Joy’s Experience to date was briefly presented; witness from returnee, detail about the project agreement and stakeholders role and responsibilities presented. Discussion made on the overall project document, implementation arrangements and all stakeholders and partners pledged to play their role for the successful implementation of the project.
